Interstices No. 22.jpg

My Interstices Collection is inspired by dilapidated walls and buildings.  To me, in every abandoned building there is a story.  The peeling paint and the crumbling bricks all have a unique texture and character.  I think about all that these left-over places have seen over the decades and am greatly inspired to capture pieces of them.

Using primarily acrylics, I add layers and layers of paint, and sometimes collage pieces or an unusual texture like sand, window screen or eggshell.  I use various mark-making tools, especially palette knives and extra sharp graphite pencils so that I can take the texture as far as I can.  On most works, as I build the layers, I extend them over the edge of the canvas to keep the illusion going.  Hopefully you can almost feel the texture on the surface just by looking at it, helping me to achieve my goal of giving you both a visual and tactile experience.

Come along with me.  Discover the beauty in disintegration.
